Yazhou Bay Science and Technology City is located in the west of Sanya City, adjacent to the two famous scenic spots of Nanshan Cultural Tourism Zone and Dongtian Cave. It is one of the 12 pilot projects for Hainan's construction of a free trade pilot zone and a free trade port with Chinese characteristics. It carries the "imagination" of Hainan Free Trade Port.

Nanfan Science and Technology City takes Nanfan scientific research as the basic industry, seed industry technology as the core industry, and tropical agricultural science as the characteristic industries. The university town centers on marine and agricultural research industries. The global animal and plant germplasm resource base focuses on the introduction of global animal, plant, and microbial germplasm resources.
