2022-05-05

HAIKOU /China/, April 27. /TASS/. Young people will breathe new energy into the development of Hainan's free trade port, so the regional authorities intend to actively support young professionals, Secretary of the CPC Hainan Provincial Committee Shen Xiaoming said.

"Young people are a fresh addition to Hainan's free trade port formation," he stressed, speaking at the opening ceremony of the 8th Communist Party of China Hainan Provincial Congress. " We must pay attention to young people and support them so that our province can become a fertile ground for the dreams of as many of the younger generation as possible," he said.

As the secretary of the party committee stated, the authorities will help nurture a highly professional workforce. According to Shen Xiaoming, the next five years will mark a key stage in Hainan's development, when the province will have to take effective measures in view of the increasing risks amid the difficult situation in the world.

"Young people are the future and hope of the Hainan Free Trade Port," he added.

The provincial leader recalled that Hainan is facing difficult challenges that will require proactive and coordinated efforts. Shen Xiaoming pointed out that in order to successfully overcome challenges, "we must free our minds and put innovations into practice".

According to the Hainan Development and Reform Commission, over the past four years, China's southernmost province has attracted more than 432,000 in-demand specialists for free trade port projects, a large proportion of whom are young people. In 2021 alone, the region welcomed about 199,000 skilled workers, an increase of 63% over the same period the year before. Representatives of more than 100 countries and regions, including Russia, Canada, the Republic of Korea, the United States and Thailand, live and work on the island. Their experience and knowledge are in demand in healthcare, science and technology, culture and education, commercial projects, and the transport communications sector.
