Hainan authorities to allow foreign environmentalists to obtain certificate of competency

2022-03-10
HAIKOU /China/, March 6. /TASS/. The administration of the South China province of Hainan will allow foreign environmental specialists to receive certificates of competency based on certificates issued in other countries. This was reported by Department of Ecology and Environmental Protection of the region.

According to the department, employers should submit a set of documents to local authorities, who, upon reviewing it, will confirm that the foreign environmentalist meets the official requirements of the People's Republic of China and has the right to work in Hainan. The certificate will be valid for three years.

However, if serious environmental safety violations occur at sites under the responsibility of a foreign specialist, the certificate will no longer be renewable. Appropriate measures will be taken against a foreign specialist who violates Chinese laws in the course of his or her official duties in accordance with national legal norms.

Hainan also announced in February that it is accepting applications for professional qualification examinations from Taiwan citizens as well as from residents of China's Hong Kong and Macau special administrative regions. According to the provincial labor department, authorities will organize tests in 27 disciplines. Exams for environmental inspectors will be held between April and June, according to the 2022 plan.

According to official data, the number of highly qualified professionals registered and permanently residing in Hainan has exceeded 1,500 by the end of 2021 and continues to steadily grow. Representatives of more than 100 countries and regions, including Russia, Canada, the Republic of Korea, the USA and Thailand live and work in the province. Their experience and knowledge are in demand in healthcare, science and technology, culture and education, commercial projects, and the transport communications sector.
